All the supporters oft the International Initiative and the campaign "No
to the death penalty - Peace now" and all interests:

In January 3, 2000 the Laywers of President of Kurdistan Workers Party
(PKK) released to the press and public opinion the message of the actual
developments. We will like to present this message to our fellow
supporters and all interests. We appeal to our supporters to do whatever
possible to urge the Turkish Government to take steps towards peace in
Turkey and become a Democratic country. It is known that the solution to
the Kurdish question will only be achieved in order to take further
steps with the abolishment of the death penalty and the death penalty
imposed on Mr Abdulllah Ocalan be lifted.
With best regards, from the International Initiative team.

"A stemmed solution must be found

In conferming the decision to keep the execution file with the
President, is a right decision, but it is a decision which will fall
short. A lawyer of Mr Abdullah Öcalan, Irfan Dündar commented that, “by
taking the file to Parliament will take the problem to no solution. When
looking at the parliament as a whole it could be seen that by putting
the file there, the probability that the decision to execute is high. It
is not foreseen that the implementation of a decision like this is not
in the interest of the public and the government. For this reason it
needs to fully abolish the death penality“. He also commented, “ In
Turkey entering a new period with a new vision is linked with Mr
Öcalan’s peace process“ and that “The government representatives know
this.Because, the representatives are more sceptic of the internal peace
being damaged than of the European Human Rights Court (EHRC)“.
Lawyer Irfan Dündar said that it is right to keep the file with the
President so that the ongoing pleasant period will continue,he also
added “but we do not find this sufficient. So that the war does not
ignite again the problem needs to be solved in a sustained way. By
keeping the file like Democlet’s sword at the Presidential, is not going
to help solve the problem. Lawyer Dündar said that by Turkey signing the
Number 6 protocol or the changes that it is going to be made in internal
legislation the death penalty must be abolished and he also commented
that, “Turkey really is like Mr Öcalan commented at a crossroad. The
lock point of the solution for the Kurdish question is connected to the
execution. The abolishment of the death penalty is going to be the first
step for the solution of the Kurdish question. This is a benefit for
both the Kurds and Turks. This is a nessecity, to not turn back to war.
The development of new steps by the PKK is going speed the abolishment
of the penalty.
Lawyer Irfan Dündar commented that the internal legislation pathways
for our mandate have been cut, they are going to open a new trial for
EHRC and the preparation for it is almost completed."
