have a proposal for yourself, please consider forwarding this to
students, other faculty or staff, co-workers, or consumers with whom you
work or play. Also, please feel free to forward to additional internet

We look forward to your participation and invite you to consider
attending our conference. Financial assistance will likely be possible
and you can email me for more information.

National Conference
Social (In)Justice: 2000 Reasons for Radical Change
June 23-25, 2000
Kellogg Center, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan
Call for Participation

We all work in our own ways in the many and diverse areas of social welfare.
We stand as first hand witnesses to widening income inequality, social
injustice, and the continued threats to human rights both in the United
States and abroad. We respond with concerted efforts, orchestrated
protests, and creative and spontaneous actions. But we must ask ourselves:
Are we serious about social change? Have we created alliances with one
another? Are we willing to support other groups with similar ideologies but
different means of action? How far will we push others and ourselves to the
roots of a problem and then toward a resolution?

The annual national conference presents an opportunity for open dialogue,
disagreement, connection, and listening. Participation from people involved
in all sectors of social welfare is a primary goal of the conference.

Proposal Framework

Please state your current areas of practice and activism and your interest
in the topic you wish to present. Submissions from groups of two or more
people from the same or different agency or organization are very welcome.
We strongly encourage women and men of all ages from socio-economically and
ethnically diverse backgrounds to submit proposals.

Briefly outline the content of your proposal. Content may pertain to, but
is certainly not limited to, civil liberties, radical direct practice,
criminal justice, the criminalization of children, governmental social
welfare programs, homelessness, employment, immigration, popular education,
trade issues, union organizing, and welfare rights. Regional,
cross-cultural, and class-consciousness emphases, along with many others,
may add to the focus and content of the proposal. We are seeking a diverse
array of proposals that concern policy, practice, education, community
organization, and activism.

Presentation format is flexible. Format may range from a skills-based
workshop to a facilitated discussion to a paper presentation focused on
social action to networking sessions to group action in which participants
design a program or strategy and present it to others. Creativity is
encouraged. Please clearly detail how the content of your presentation will
reach participants.

Please submit a one to two page proposal with the following four pieces of
information:
~ Name, address, and areas of practice and activism
~ Topic content and interest in topic
     ~ Format
~ 50 word or less summary of proposal
All proposals must be received by February 15, 2000. The program committee
will review each proposal and notify the applicants by mid-March, 2000.
