Flash Bulletin

1. "HADEP MUNIPCIPAL MAYORS ARRESTED!!" :

    The HADEP municipal Mayors, Diyarbakir Greater City Municipality Mayor Feridun Celik, Siirt Mayor M. Selim Ozalp, Bingol Mayor Feyzullah Karaaslan,  who two days ago were taken in unusual methods by gendarme and incacerated are arrested. The Mayors were taken yesterday by gendarme through a back entrance to the Armed Forces Court in which after 12 hours of investigation the three mayors were arrested. The Mayors were accused of helping and bedding the PKK under this accusation the Mayors if convicted will be gaoled to a minimum 4.5 years and maximum 6.5 years. European Parliamentarians codemned the arrests while the U.S said that the Human Rights Report which is going  passed on by Washington to Turkey tomorrow said that the Human Rights Report like previous years is going to be bulking.
   

2. "A Game By The War Facilitators" :

    PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan stated that the incacerations of the Municipal Mayors was a game by war facilitator forces and the public could in legal boundaries express "without going into provocation"  their reactions. Ocalan pointed out that it is a period of undetermindness and that if this period continues for long, it could endanger the peace in the country
 

3. "Protests Continue" :

    The public are continuing their protest and are on the streets against the incaceration of the HADEP Municipal Mayors even though the previous day they were attacked by police.

    The continuing increasement of demonstrations the municipal and DGM (Government Security Court [GSC] ) buildings were blockaded by police, together with working personnel all were not permited to exit the municipal building.

    Despite the intense rain approximately 500 demonstrators from 12:00 noon  who wanted to walk to the municipal building and GSC were confronted by police attacks on the civillian demonsrators. The demonstrators chanted with peace signs "Freedom For the Mayors", "Pressure Will Not Stop Us" and presumed walking. The crowd who wanted to go to Dagkapi Meydan (Area) were faced with police attacks again, in which one female and five people were injured.
 

3. "European Commission Reacts" :

    While the European Commisson demanded that the Municipal Mayors be released immediately, European Parliament President Fontaine said, in the event of the Mayors' arrest the peace solution will go into difficulty.

    European Parliament Council Assembly President Lord Russel Johnston, General Secratary Walter Schimmer, Regional Directing Congress President Alain Chenard, made a statement on the incacerated Municipal Mayors. In the statement, "the representitives were voted in by taking the citizens trust in their administrated province, it was a suprise for the current political atmosphere" and "the regional situation will be examined immediately".
