The University of Southern Maine's Department of Criminology invites
applications for an entry-level, tenure-track Assistant Professorship
in Criminology to begin September 1, 2000. Ph.D. required no later
than August 1, 2000 in sociology, criminology, criminal justice or
related social science discipline. The Department intends that by
filling this position it will add to the diversity of its faculty;
applications from minorities and other underrepresented classes are
therefore strongly encouraged. The successful candidate will have a
significant research agenda and be willing to teach in the area of
race and crime; other teaching areas are open, though some
preference will be given to mass media and crime. Review of applications
will begin at once and continue until the position is filled. USM is an
