Charisse: HI! I agree with Stuart's assessment of Mike Lynch's book. It's
titled, "The New Primer in Radical Criminology: Critical Perspectives on
Crime, Power, and Identity." It really is an expanded version of the 2nd
edition. The co-authors are Ray Michalowski and Casey Groves. The
book is published by Criminal Justice Press (2000). For what it's worth, I
did an anthology a few years ago. The contributors were key
representatives from various critical crim perspectives (e.g.,
peacemaking, anarchism, socialist feminism). The authors were asked to
comment on how their particular critical crim perspective interpreted the
variable of social justice. the book is titiled "Social Justice/Criminal
Justice: The Maturation of Critical Theory in Law, Crime, and Deviance
(Wadsworth, 1999). I've used this book in upper division undergard and
lower division grad courses with some considerable success. Then, too,
you may want to consider Henry and Milovanovic's "Constitutive
Criminology: Beyond Postmodernism" (Sage, 1996). I think it's a classic!
Also, Schwartz and Milovanovic's "Race, Gender, and Class: The
Intersections" (Garland, 1999 paperback) is also quite good. Good
hunting!
Sorry to hear you'll not be attending the ASC meetings in San Francisco.
Best, Bruce
