CERJ: Advisory Board

CERJ would like to know if you, or if anyone you know, would be interested
in serving on the CERJ global Advisory Board.

CERJ's Internet-based Advisory Board is a group of individuals who have
indicated that they are willing to play a more active outward role in the
development of the CERJ justice reform coalition-building initiative.

The Advisory Board (AB) is CERJ's way of extending its formal leadership
globally -- to people who are unable to attend regular meetings of the
Board of Directors (in New York City 3X annually) or who are too busy to
serve in more active organizing capacities (such as Member of the Board of
Directors or jurisdictional Coordinator).

The AB currently numbers over 30 individuals of many walks of life -- there
is no minimum education or work experience requirement to join, though
Internet access is very highly recommended. These folks have agreed to
respond -- on an occasional basis -- to special Internet (e-mail) requests
for advice pertaining to CERJ's organizational development. Many have also
subscribed to an Internet e-mail discussion list (currently JUSTICE) in
order to facilitate communication among themselves and the other CERJ
principals. One day soon the AB will have its own email discussion list.

The Advisory Board members understand that their Board is really a virtual
committee -- it is a fully constituted By-Laws-mandated committee of the
CERJ Board of Directors, and its Chair serves ex-officio on the BOD. Since
CERJ is an organization that makes decisions by consensus, the influence
that the AB or its individuals can exercise on CERJ's policy and strategic
planning should not be underestimated.

It should be understood that Advisory Board members have no minimum work
requirement, no travel requirements (except the Chair, who comes to NYC 3X
annually), and do not obligate themselves materially to any organization,
including CERJ. However, AB members do give permission for their names and
brief bios to be placed on the CERJ web site, and their names alone to be
placed on stationery or in brochures, with the understanding that their
support of CERJ will be cited and held up as an example, particularly when
CERJ is soliciting support from others. Board members supply their own
bios, which are usually lightly edited (for format, for style, and
occasionally for conciseness).

The CERJ Advisory Board email mailing list is maintained separate from the
general worldwide list, and it is not required that Advisory Board members
subscribe to the more active general list, though this is advisable.

The position of Chair of the CERJ Advisory Board is currently vacant. The
successful candidate will be someone who is able to travel to New York City
for meetings on the second Friday of January, May, and September each year.
Please let me know by return email if you're interested, or if you know
someone who is.

Please consider serving on the CERJ Advisory Board yourself, and please also
refer this opportunity to others who may be interested, and/or feel free
to nominate others (anonymously, if you prefer), whom we will be happy to
contact.

I hope you will visit the CERJ web site. Please notice the fine group of
people who are on our Advisory Board already. You could be one of them!
Naturally, we will be happy to link your Advisory Board entry to your
personal or justice-related web site, and/or to your email addresses.
