Ok I guess my response to Marty's innocent question was a little inflamatory,
though it did serve to bring out some important issues about the division,
though I've yet to see any discussion of key issues we need to address in the wider
socio-political context. I actually enjoy Marty's commentaries, and am even
debating with him and Walter on left realism in an upcoming book. If I caused
offense through implied criticism Marty, I apologise. I was actually
addressing the behavior of the seeming lack of attention to critical issues,
not you in particular.

For the record, I never claim to be an activist at all and applaud all who are;
I have been in the US since 1983 and came to the inaugral meeting of the
division and the founding of the newsletter, as well as being a frequent
contributor to it, and instrumental in putting together the current editorial
team. Enough of that.

On the issues Marty raised about the division, these certainly needs some
attention. On the specific one I can't see why we are unable to produce our
own list of critical criminology/division members. I have the current mailing
list and could certainly have this typed up to disk and posted on the division's web
pages, which could then be corrected by all who are interested.

I guess one of the problems I have with the listserve technology is that
doesn't discriminate between business/organizationl/business matters and
substantive commentary about issues. When I expect the latter and get the
former I may overreact, as Stve vividly pointed out.

So, back to the question: Are there issues on our agenda for 1998? What are
they? Gregg, Walter and Marty have all pointed to divisional organization
questions that need to be addressed. But what about critical crime/social
justice issues, the very thing Brian has been urging us to deal with. I'm not
suggesting a detailed thesis on each at this point; merely an agenda for 1998.

Cheers
