RE: ASC Presidential Election

I am writing to endorse the candidacy of Roland Chilton for ASC president
and to encourage division members to give him their support in the upcoming
ASC presidential election.

Roland has been a division supporter since its inception, and has attended
many division-sponosored sessions over the last 5 years. His own work on
race and crime shares many theoretical points of contact with the kinds of
research and theory pursued by division members. His longstanding
friendship with past ASC president, Bill Chambliss, has also ensured that
Roland has had extensive exposure to the political issues surrounding the
evolution of critical criminology within the ASC.

Most importantly from the perspective of the Division, Roland Chilton is
someone who welcomes inquiry from a critical perspective as a legitimate
part of the criminological enterprise, rather than viewing criminology in
narrow and traditional quantitative terms. It is my belief that both
critical and feminist inquiry in criminology will benefit from the election
of Roland Chilton as ASC president, and I encourage Division members to
give him their support.
