I always thought it wise to tailor language to the audience. I would
suspect that the public would be better persuaded by the original rhetoric
above as opposed to carefully worded methodological language (and I seem to
recall that the public was the intended audience). On the other hand, if I
encountered the above logic in a journal, I would probably skip over it.
If I saw the proposed article on sense of humor deficits, I would
definitely find it worth reading.
