Hello All,
This is kind of a question and possible example to Jon's desire
for discussion. I have read the first three chapters of Charon's book
almost thee times, and it still hasn't totally sunk in. My main purpose
for writing this is for clarification, but it could also lead to
discussion about the perspectives of SI's. I want to make sure
that I am clear on the terminology that Charon uses. The idea that the
"individual judges perspective according to their usefulness for the
individual"(Ch.1). this to me would suggest that no perspective could be
left out due to the uniqueness of each individual. However, if a perspective
was used based upon usefulness, how could there be value-free research
etc.? Just by this definition, there has to be a value judgement upon what
would be reliable and valid, correct? And if this is the case, can there be
only one definition of perspective? Or is it a situation where "anything
goes" so to speak? So, I guess my main question is have I understood this
right, or just completely confused myself? I would really appreciate any
imput! Thanks :)
Chrissy
