While not really my "area", you might wish to check out Rosaldo's
Culture and Truth on the theme of "double Consicousness". He uses the
concept "cultural boarderlands" to reflect the multiplicity of experiencethat
comes with cultural overlap. His description of the experience of a vet
clinic from an outsiders perspective is almost worth the price of admission.
