What is this entity that detaches itself to look at its true self without
role-taking? If self-awareness only arises through symbolic interaction,
what sort of a self could exist except through taking the role of the
other? And do individuals really know their "true self?" I opine that
this true self does not exist, except perhaps in a metaphysical or
spiritual sense, for self-communication is probably as dramaturgical as
social interaction.
