I'm new to this network and just sort of sitting in...but your
message did catch my eye. I'm not sure what you are reading for
your class, (excerpts from the book, etc.) but my copy of Soc.
of the absurd by Lyman and Scott is dated 1970 - makes a little
more sense re: the bias that you identified...It seems to me
that much of their discussion on homosexuality is an expansion
of and elaboration of some of Goffman's work on impression
mgmt., hence, the discussion of distinct strategies used by
gays and lesbians in relation to "normals" - While thankfully
our sensitivities have changed, some of the concepts remain
useful when re-contextualized.
