accounts and identity

This week's readings raised two questions for me. I'd appreciate any
input:
1) The entire section of accounts and justifications startled me. Is
there anything you can't account for?

2) By making accounts for our actions, they imply that we cannot change
our identity once we account for our actions. I disagree. Every account
changes the way other people see us, and consequently, the way we see
ourselves (Think the looking glass self). Whay do you think?
