Jim Thomas and I have set up
a new SSSI listserver list for SI studnets called
INTERACT. This list is meant to serve as a resource for
both undergraduate and beginning graduate students
interested in interactionism. Any topic that falls within
the scope in SI is appropriate for discussion on this list. Students can
discuss
class assignments, locate resources, discuss research methods, whatever.
You get the picture. The list is meant to be a helpful place for socioligy
students interested in SI to hang out and chat.

In order to really make this new list work, I need help on two points

1) Please encourage your students to join the list.
to join INTERACT send the message
subscribe interact
to this address:
listproc@sun.soci.niu.edu

2) Please join yourself. INTERACT can be an excellent forum
for mentoring, and for helping to maintain students interest
in interactionism. While I see INTERACT primarily as
a forum for students professors and advanced graduate student
input can only make the list stronger. Also think back to when you
were a student. Suppose you were discussing Parsons
AGIL (or something like that, bear with me) but couldn't figure
out what was going on. If Parsons suddenly popped up
in person on your email (a remarkable thing for a dead guy to do, aye?)
and clarified it for you, wouldn't it have made your day?
We can do the same thing, but with smaller words and shorter sentences!

Please pass the word on this list along, and join yourself!

thanks,

Jon
