I asked Stan if he had a copy of "Accounts" in ASCII format. Sadly,
he doesn't, but his response produced a marvelous biblio for use
in my (and I presume others') courses. In fact, it's the outline for
a week's lectures. (reposted with permission)

>Dear Jim: Sorry, Accounts is not to my knowledge available on ascii. It
is available as a chapter in the revised and expanded edition of Stanford M.
Lyman and Marvin B. Scott, A SOCIOLOGY OF THE ABSURD, (Dix Hills,
N.Y.:General Hall Publishers, 1989), pp. 112-132.

Among recent articles of mine relevant to the discussions on this
line are: "History and Sociology: Some Unresolved Epistemological Issues,"
INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF POLITICS, CULTURE, AND SOCIETY, Vol. 9, no. 1
(Fall, 1995), pp. 29-56; and "Without Morals or Mores: Deviance in
Postmodern Social Theory," INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF POLITICS, CULTURE, AND
SOCIETY, Vol. 9, no. 2 (Winter, 1995), pp. 197-236.

Incidentally, SI people should become acquainted with this journal.
It was founded 10 years ago by Arthur Vidich and Stanford M. Lyman and has
very many articles that should be studied by SI people, especially those who
hold as I do that SI is applicable to macrosociological issues.

Interested persons should also consult the 4 books I have published
with University of Arkansas Press: SOCIAL ORDER AND THE PUBLIC PHILOSOPHY:
AN ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF THE WORK OF HERBERT BLUMER (co-author:
Arthur J. Vidich)(1988); CIVILIZATION: CONTENTS, DISCONTENTS, MALCONTENTS
AND OTHER ESSAYS IN SOCIAL THEORY(1990); MILITARISM, IMPERIALISM, AND
RACIAL ACCOMMODATION: AN ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF THE EARLY WRITINGS
OF ROBERT E. PARK(1992); and NATO AND GERMANY: A STUDY IN THE SOCIOLOGY OF
SUPRANATIONAL RELATIONS (1995). In Spring, 1997, University of Arkansas
Press will publish my book entitled POSTMODERNISM AND A SOCIOLOGY OF THE
ABSURD AND OTHER ESSAYS IN THE "NOUVELLE VAGUE" IN SOCIAL SCIENCE. SI
people interested in the race and minority issue might wish to consult my
book entitled COLOR, CULTURE, CIVILIZATION: RACE AND MINORITY ISSUES IN
AMERICAN SOCIETY, (Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 1994) for it
contains the first postmodern analysis of the assimilation-pluralism debate.

Hope this is helpful.
