1. The nearest international airport to Nottingham is East Midlands,
about 15 miles away. The only scheduled US flights, though, are with
Aer Lingus through Dublin to New York. There are charters to Florida
and Toronto and you might be able to get on one of them. East
Midlands has good air connections to Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris
via British Midland who have some sort of tie-up with United.
2. The airports at Birmingham, Stansted and Manchester all have a
variety of US connections and good rail links to Nottingham. You
should expect to pay about 80 dollars for a return rail trip between
Nottingham and Heathrow via London. Any of the other airports will
cost you about half that in transfers so you could accept a price
difference of 40-50 dollars on the actual flight. Personally I would
accept a bit more to avoid Heathrow which is very congested in summer
and at the end of a very tedious subway line. Try to avoid flights
into Gatwick which is the wrong side of London. The journey cost is
about the same as Heathrow and a lot more inconvenient.
3. If a group of people do end up on the same flight into East
Midlands or Birmingham, we can organize a cab to meet it. The
Brimingham cost will be about 15 dollars per head for four people and
the East Midlands cost will be about 5-6 dollars. We need about one
week's notice with flight number and expected arrival time.
4. I am quite happy to arrange a T-shirt or to leave it to Jon. My
feeling was that he might not want to carry 100 T-shirts in his
luggage allowance but I liked the last design and still wear it to
promote this year's meeting! We have a colour version of the logo on
your booking leaflets and I can use this as the main motif on the T-
shirt. Would you like to let me know what you think?
