I have just received the following request for advice. It's not
really my thing and I can't call anything immediately to mind.
However, I wondered if it would spark any thoughts from anyone else.
Could you please reply directly to Peter Tolmie, copy to the list if
you like, rather than to me.

Dear Robert Dingwall

I hope you'll forgive my intrusion from an 'alien' institution.

I am a student of Dede Boden at the Sociology Department here and she
suggested that I contact you.

I am currently working on a project for my undergraduate degree that is
investigating issues to do with the processing of experience through
stories in conversation.

I'm particularly involved in looking at how experiences represented
through so called narrative 'artefacts' (especially those of television)
are subjected to reworking and personal integration in conversation.

My previous work for Dede has folled a Conversation Analysis trajectory
so i'm keen to pick up an Ethnomethodological angle on this topic area.
However, having trawled the library here, i've drawn a blank.

Dede recalls that Symbolic Interactionists have tackled this subject
but can't bring to mind many specific book titles. Hence my reason for
contacting you.

If any titles do occur to you or you know of anyone else who has an
interest in such things, is it possible for you to let me know? If you
are able to help I shall be most indebted to you.

Hoping this is not too much of an inconvenience and with many thanks in
anticipation.

Yours sincerely

Peter Tolmie
