"show and tell"

The purpose of this e-mail is to propose a Webmaster meeting for
sometime in June. Yes, it's been a long time since our
standing-room-only meeting in Campus Life back in January. I've held
back initiating the next meeting to see if anyone else would come
forward with a proposed topic/agenda.... mainly because I didn't want
people to feel that the agenda was always set by me.

So far I have only heard from a few people with some possible topics
which sounded like things that might be better saved for Fall when all
faculty are also back on campus.

In the meantime, I was wondering if there would be sufficient interest
for a summer webmaster meeting which was focused more on just the core
webmasters group (which means I won't invite the whole university to
come this time). I thought it might be helpful to have a meeting with
the theme of just sharing something interesting, unique,
inspirational, or just downright cool that we have done on our own web
sites. I envisioned giving each person willing to participate in
"show and tell" about 10 minutes just to spotlight some of what you
have done and then we could share later (through the Webmaster site)
some tips, resources, html code, etc... for doing it. What do you
think? For this to be worthwhile, I think we would need at least 4
people willing to show their stuff... any takers?

A second issue I would like to discuss at the meeting is the
Webmasters own web site. As the campus organization with the goal of
advancing web development I think it would be good if we considered
updating our site with more features (like expanding the web resource
and web development aspect which was slated as a goal for the
webmaster group back in 1997), functionality, and perhaps a fresh
look. My main purpose at our meeting would be to get a sense for the
group's interest in doing this and to possibly identify a sub-group
who would be willing to work on this project.

Please respond to me at misic@niu.edu if you are willing to
participate in some way with a show-and-tell meeting this summer
(indicating also whether you would be willing to show your stuff or if
you would just be interested in attending) and also what your thoughts
are on a revamping of the Webmasters page.
