Subject: Feedback Regarding NIU's On-line Courses
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Disposition: inline
Dear "NIU On-line,"
I would absolutely LOVE to see graduate studies made available on-line from
the Dept. of English. In addition to being an
incoming graduate student at NIU, I am also a working professional, serving
in the Chicago area as a P.R./Advertising &
Communications Director for an international technical staffing firm. I am
preparing to pursue graduate work in English this fall --
looking on your website, I was so excited to learn that you were beginning
to offer on-line educational options, and later
dismayed to realize that you offered nothing from the English Dept. or
other Liberal Arts areas for the upcoming fall semester.
I was offered a Graduate Assistantship in English but needed to maintain my
full time career, so I intend to work toward my MA
on a part-time basis, which I anticipate will be both rewarding and
extremely challenging.
I feel that many working professionals like myself would find on-line
coursework to be a natural extension of our modern day
technological "habits." And we would greatly benefit from the convenience
of on-line courses in aspiring to continue or advance
our education while maintaining our careers. I would even be willing to
pay an extra fee for the on-line option, similar to
on-campus course student fees -- just for the enormous convenience it would
provide. I work in the Chicago area and I believe
I speak for many with similar time and travel restraints AND similar
educational goals, when I say that the commute out to the
DeKalb campus is challenging at best, simply impractical at worst -- given
the demands of my professional commitments.
Please consider accelerating your program for on-line course availability.
I guarantee that there are many who would take
advantage of that "modern convenience..." and your continuing education
outreach to adult professionals would grow even
more successful, (as would your on-line student populus and corresponding
school revenue from this great option!)
Thank you for your consideration...I hope that NIU's on-line program will
quickly expand to include liberal arts departments...
the benefits would surely be mutual!
I can be reached at ckrause@tsi.net if there are any questions or feedback
to my comments regarding your on-line educational
opportunities.
Regards,
Claire E. Krause
