I would like second your notion as outlined. Details can be debated, but
the general notion seems sound.
I would like to see the academic department pages have some consistancy
as well.
I would think that there could be a similar hierarchy for departments:
1. mission statement and description of the program
2. various programs and degree offerings
3. faculty (under this link might be links to individual faculty
pages with some good info about their work and collegial interests.
4. Scholarship and financial assistance info
5. misc. and etc.
