What I do is use the Netscape extensions that (a) are truly useful and (b)
don't mess up Mosaic. I don't care about any other browser - the number of
users of the other types are very small, except for lynx, which as far as I
am concerned truly misses the point of the web - its graphical!
So, I don't use backgrounds (which don't mess up Mosaic, but what's the real
point), I don't use blink (in fact I leave pages that use blink); i use
the extensions for image placement and borders, and I use the table commands
as written for Mosaic, which don't break netscape - they're not as cool as netscape's extensions, but the netscape extensions for tables do not work at
all for mosaic.
Jim's point is valid in that we can't remain stagnant, serving the lowest commondemoniator, but at the same time, we can't let netscape decide what's good
and bad html all by themselves.
