The www is the first time artist have been able to express
themselves on the internet. Netscape is the browser that is
really going with that, and why not? It has to start
somewhere. It kind of reminds me of something that
happened to the computer industry in 1984. Xerox may
have been the first but where would we be without Apple?
At a DOS prompt? Certainly not arguing about the www and graphical
interfaces.

That is the beauty of many browsers. To view or not to view. You
have the choice.
As for pages so busy or loud that you can't read the text from
a monochrome monitor, that is partly the fault of the
designer (or those trying to be designers who really aren't).
The designers knows that even when using color they must
contrast enought to be readable. It is also part of the
learning curve. Everyone wants to play with the bells and
whistles at first .
An example of a Netscape background that really works on
a monochrome monitor is Jeff's design of the Webmasters
page. It is actually more readable on my monochrome
monitor (I have both color & monochrome) then the default
grey background page.
I also agree with Jeff that all browsers will eventually catch
up with Netscape, and with the needs of those both textual
as well as artistic. It just takes time. This www stuff is really
moving fast right now.
Another thought. The good web designer will use
the ALT function and other such commands to make sure
information can be read from as many browsers as
possible. Even LYNX.
Sorry, as an Artist, I just had to get into this discussion. ;)
